Very good! The food was delicious. And the complimentary starter dishes were great too! The only thing that threw me off is the portion for the prices and the chairs were lawn chairs. But those are things I could look past for the quality and flavor of the food. So good!

We've eaten at this restaurant many times, but today we had the rudest service I've experienced at any restaurant. Despite having a reservation for two weeks, they crammed our party into two round tables put together so we had our backs to each other. After asking the waiter and manager for a new table, the waiter literally started yelling at one of the members of our party. Just because a restaurant has a wait outside every night does not mean it can toss customer service and basic human decency out the window.

A lot of food for a good price. We start with the white beans and escarole with bread. Tastey! Then came the tomato-cucumber salad. Refreshing. Next was the pasta and sauce! Is there room for the main course? (I think there was a little too much undercooked garlic in the sauce, and a little on the sweet side - not my favorite). Then the main coarse. I got the lasagna bolognese. Good flavor, with very flavorful sauce. There was so much food that I took most of it home. All for a very good price. The wait staff was very nice too. Overall, a very nice dining experience with lots of leftovers for the next day!

Don't worry about finding good Italian food anymore when you bring the fam down to Myrtle Beach. Umberto's does the job. First they bring you what is essentially pasta e fagioli followed by a typically Italian-seasoned tomato salad (both served family style). We asked the waiter to bring over the angel hair pasta with our entrees; this is where Umberto's gets even better. I opted for the pork chops; the size of which you might find comparable to the ones on the down end of Fred Flintstone's car. Delicious, juicy, and succulent. I had the privilege of tasting the raviolis which were homemade and fresh. The marinara is very chunky and full of rich spices. The bread was fresh baked and the butter tasted freshly churned from the farm. Also, the chicken piccata was heavenly. What's wrong with this place? Well, make sure your wallet isn't light tonight. They are a tad pricy, even for an upscale red sauce joint. The chairs were backyard deck chairs and it was a bit cramped and loud. But hey, what do you expect? If you make good food... they will come. Next time I'm in Myrtle Beach... I'll be back Jack!

We had never been here before but joined two guys we played golf with after they raved about it. I must say it was well worth it. The food is outstanding and you will not leave hungry and most likely will leave with a "snack" for later. The lamb chop and pork chop combo special was juicy and perfectly done. My New York Strip ranked right up there with the finest chop houses. Come hungry and leave very satisfied!

We came with friends who rave about this place. They serve you a huge amount of below average Italian food. We were underwhelmed in all aspects. The pasta and sauce were just not that good, if you fail there, how can you win? I love good Italian food, but I did not love this place.

Plastic chairs with lemons table cloths. Something was missing! Food was mediocre. Staff was really friendly!

Had a lovely dinner at Umberto's last night for my birthday. The meal begins with beans and greens, cucumber tomato salad, and angel hair pasta with marinara. They were all delicious and really could have been a meal on their own! Two family members got veal dishes- both tasty, but the veal was a bit over-cooked. Chicken Umberto was flavorful and delicious. My father got a blackened grouper special- also great! The house wine is priced at $22 a bottle, a steal! Our server Eric was attentive and friendly!

I am unsure why this place comes highly recommended. Maybe it's because I'm from the north and know what good Italian food is, well this is not it. They do try to make it an upscale experience but there seasonal employees are not fully trained and the kitchen I imagine is the same as the sauces are ratched.

So much food! My family ate at Umberto's last evening and everything was delicious! Every meal comes with beans and greens, tomato and cucumber salad and angel hair pasta served family style. We had the penne vodka, chicken French and chicken Marsala. All the dishes were excellent. Not one of our party of five had a complaint about our meals. Our waitress was very attentive, clearing plates, refilling drinks, etc. We will definitely go back!

Come here if you are hungry. Meal starts with escarole and beans, bread and butter and tomato salad. Then come pasta with your entree. Veal and eggplant was tasty. It's hopping here on a Tuesday night. Heather our waitperson was great!

What a great place!! One of the best places I have had dinner while in MB. It's a must visit. Be sure to try the veal chop!!!

I have heard great things about Umberto's and was really not impressed. While the multiple courses of beans/greens, salad, and bread are great, I felt like our server was an announcer. He proclaimed what was "next" at least twice per course. That is, until my water glass went empty. Then he disappeared for over 15 minutes, while he could be seen attending to the tables around us. To his defense, we were stuck in a corner that clearly does not usually have a table in it. Maybe he was just not used to scanning our section. However, when my plate costs $40, I don't expect my water glass to go empty for an extended period of time. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. I've had better ossobuco. With so many other options, I won't be back to Umberto's.

Very disappointed. They give you a lot of extras but the sauce didn't have much flavor and neither did the wine sauce on the Veal. They do not use mozzarella on their veal parmigiana they use provolone.

I was extremely disappointed with this place. When I first entered I thought "inviting family place" and the food looked plentiful and delicious. I was very very wrong. The service was slow, the food was not horrible but not great either, there was a hair in our appetizer (not a hair color that matched any of ours) and the hostess kept trying to sit people directly on top of another occupied table. I understand that more tables = more $$, but get a clue when every person you sit asks to be moved from the already tight location. Our table was surrounded by 2 other families that if any of us needed to get up or move you were interrupting the other table to do so. We were all commenting on the tightness of the situation. We loved our evening spent at Barefoot Landing, but a lot of our time was wasted at Umberto's and we were not left satisfied by the food or the price. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Sorry!

First time and it was loud but the food and service more then make up for it. Robert was our waiter and was new but he was extremely helpful and new the menu. He took very good care of our 4 year old which enabled us to enjoy the great dinner. The three prefix items of soup, tomato salad and pasta dish was very good. Our dinners were very good and BIG portions. My wife loved the salmon with dill sauce and I had the stuffed pork chops with Demi glaze. Recommend this place to everyone. Hard to believe it's located in a mall area. Expect to find it in the big cities!

Décor trapped in the 1980's with Black plastic chairs instead of wooden chairs that would be expected from a sit down restaurant. It was very noisy since it is just one big room like a wedding hall and no dividers between the tables. The food came out promptly and the wait staff was very friendly and tried to be as accommodating as they could with the busy dinner rush. The food quality was average Italian food perhaps my expectations were too high after reading the other reviews here. Overall average experience nothing special to rave about.

Went to Umbertos - or Steeler Nation, Myrtle Beach Chapter on a Monday night in June. We were seated immediately in the bar area at a small booth with extra chairs (plastic). Service: Poor. The quickest way to get a small tip is to not bring refills on drinks, especially when I am paying resort prices. Our waiter never delivered any of the refills for the girls, and worse yet, never brought me a fresh drink. Food was delivered in reasonable times. Food: Very good. The family style soup/salad/pasta are really good and make a nice meal without an entre. I had the veal marsala. The veal and the sauce were very good, the side was very bland. Eggplant parmesan was "really good". Kids options are limited and are not "home made" like the adult entrées. Atmosphere: Loud in the main dining room, more intimate in the bar. Overall: The food is very good but the service and ambiance could use some improvement.

Went last night with my sister and girlfriends. I told them we were going to a Piitsburgh restaurant. They had just flown in from Venice and Tel Aviv (flight attendants and best college buddies) My sister and I were in from Pittsburgh for a few days and asked them to visit. We were seated at our reserved time and asked if we wanted quiet or noisy and we chose quiet by the window in the front room so we could talk. It smelled delicious and everyone around us seemed to be enjoying themselves. We ordered wine and had a toast to to our long friendship. We were greeted by our waiter SCOTT and he introduced himself and made small talk. He got us water and wine then told us off the specials. He was so nice and very friendly. He suggested many dishes and was very knowledgable of the menu. It's great when someone can give honest opinions and knows the ingredients in the various dishes. We all enjoyed the appetizers, including the signature salad, beans and greens and pasta. It was all delicious. Carole had the salmon with shrimp, Karen and Roz had Grouper and i had the eggplant. The artichokes were fantastic, too. Fresh bread, and great service made for a wonderful get-together and reunion. We had a fun evening and can't say enough about the food and the waiter SCOTT Santangelo. As it turns out he knew my sister Karen, as she was his art teacher in Mt. Pleasant! It was a pleasant end to the meal, talking with him. So if you go to the restaurant, you will leave stuffed to the brim. The men beside us had huge lamb chops and the steaks looked great. So if you go ask for SCOTT he will try to do everything possible to make your meal a memorable one! We will be back as always!

We love coming to Umberto's as a family. The food is pricey, but you get so much of it that it's hard to complain, and you'll have plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. It was loud, but good for a family of five to go for dinner. They give you a tomato salad, pasta with marinara, a pasta/bean dish, and bread/butter to start before your meals come. The food is always good, and although it's noisy in there, it's Italian family style and is to be expected.

This place is owned by Pittsburghers. How can you go wrong? Family style portions means plenty to eat. Pace yourself because it's all good. I highly recommend. Definitely get reservations.

If I could give them a negative rating... I would. I called to see if they offered "call ahead" seating, no he says. So can I make a reservation for 30 minutes out? Sure... Really?? Isn't that call ahead seating?? Walk in & get seated right away for a party of 4. But seated to where only 1 of our party was able to get up. One member of our party had to stand to allow the waiter to go by. The chairs we're sitting at... Plastic lawn chairs!! Really? With most menu items being $25 a piece!! The manager comes by after I ask for another table & says "it'll have to be a booth" so... I'm fine with that. He continues to talk to us & I said "well, this isn't gonna work" another person in my party sees that I'm irritated & says "lets calm down" to which the manager says "ya, really" Then the waiter comes by & slams a stack of plates on the table saying "I'll be back in a minute" that was it... It was the last straw. As we're leaving... Before spending our hard earned $$ to sit in patio chairs & have shitty service to which I can only say I'm sure the food would have been just as shitty as the atmosphere... I pass the manager & tell him we're leaving to which he says "good"! I said I'd leave a bad review & he chimed in "go ahead" So here ya have it... This place sucks ass!! I wouldn't spend a dime here with the management & wait staff employed with them now. I'll make sure the next time I come to the east coast, I stay the hell outta Umbertos!

If you are seeking authentic Italian food and atmosphere in the North Myrtle Beach area, Umberto is for you. Be prepared and be very very hungry. The wine list is short but very affordable and specific to the Italian regions. Every entree has family style starters including a very thick Pasta Figilio soup, a tomato and cucumber salad and pasta along with the bread. This is a wonderful place for a long group dinner or a romantic couple night out. Enjoy a good entree of Chicken Piccata or Salmon and shrimp Save your appetite....

Been coming here for over 10 years - it's a must when we are in Myrtle. Everything about this place is authentic and just like my Italian mom would make. Thick slices of homemade crusty Italian bread. Perfect for dipping in your sauce, the salad oil, or your plate after the greens n beans are gone. Everyone gets greens n beans to start, as well as their salad - which is fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and red onions in an olive oil dressing. As my sister in law said, "you could bathe in the oil it's so good". These are served family style, as is the pasta that comes with dinner. The pork chops are THICK. One is enough. Juicy and tasty. The chicken Antonio is stuffed with provolone and prosciutto, adding the right amount of salt. My favorite item is the osso buco. Falls off the bone. You will leave here with leftovers, no doubt about it. So, plan on leftovers and leave room for coffee and dessert. They make a good cappuccino and a great cannoli.

AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!! the food was good, I'll give you that. the prices are expensive. However, the absolute WORST part of the experience is that after we settled the check (we were with a group of friends), we strolled about Barefoot Landing, looking in other shops. Normal, right? then all of a sudden, our waiter comes up to us, raising his voice because he didn't see a tip on the bill. People were gathering around us, and we were totally embarrassed -- as if we had skipped out on the bill. Absolutely abhorrent behavior from wait staff!!! I wish the company had a web site, because I would CERTAINLY give them a piece of my mind. We were so embarrassed that we were constrained to give him another tip, right in front of the rest of the people gathering. That waiter should be fired!! And you can bet I'm going to yell it from the rooftops on other ratings web sites. That kind of behavior should never be allowed.

Forget the fact that you are sitting on plastic lawn chairs, and that the restaurant is laid out with table on top of each other, because once you have the food all of that will go away. The food is just tremendously good, and the service is top notch. The food is family style so you better bring an appetite because the courses just go on and on. I am not a big bean fan, but the bean dish they bring is fantastic. If you order any of the steaks or chops, beware they are Fred Flintstone size, a brontosaurs burger has nothing on these hunks of meat. Seriously the last time we were there they brought out a stuffed pork chop that measured 5in X 5in X 5in, that was next to a steak that was roughly a 3 1/2" cut, and all that (with all the family style courses) was $30. Just a great place to go to have a meal that will incapacitate you for hours.

I was there with a big group from work. We had family style dining. They bring out dinner rolls and butter while you await the appetizers. For starters we had bean with greens (I am not good with exact menu names, so whatever is close to it), pasta marinara & salad(tomato/onion). I chose salmon for my entree. Everything was good, we have prompt service and our waitress wasn't kidding when she said we won't be leaving hungry. By the time I got to my entree I was already stuffed and my taste buds were threatning to quit.

This is a yearly treat that I will never miss. The food is fantastic and service is the best. They have a few specialties on the menu but I suggest the grilled pork chops. They are cooked to perfection, it takes pork chops to a new dimension. The meal is served in various courses and is a relaxing evening. I have had dinner for two and have brought a group of twenty golfers. Regardless, the food and service are hard to beat.

Visited Umberto's while on vacation with old college buds. When the organizer of the group called to get their hours we found out that it was 10 minutes before they closed, when pressed on whether we would get seated if we showed up at 9pm, they said yes. Luckily we were ready to go and right across the street...we hightailed it there and got seated with great service (we were worried that they'd be pissed about the latecomers before closing) and even better food. I ordered the shrimp scampi app (delicious), the eggplant parm (sans cheese....YAY for them fulfilling my request) was to DIE for and they serve what they call family style so along with what we ordered the table got plates to share, we got a warm white bean and rosemary salad, a cucumber tomato salad, bread, and pasta in marinara sauce...and every.single.bite was delicious (plus we had leftovers for lunch the following day :)). Good LORD this place rocks (I still have dreams about that dinner) and if I ever find myself in Myrtle Beach again, I will most definitely make a point of visiting this place!

This place was recommended by a paison who had been going to Umberto's for 20 years. Great choice. We were running late and we called to ask if we could still be seated. The person answering the phone stated that if we could get there by 9:30pm, they would still serve us. Well.....we got there at 9:55. They knew us from the phone conversation and still were happy to seat and serve us. We ordered the fried provolone as an appetizer and the eggplant parm and NY strip for main entrees. We also ordered a chicken parm from the kids menu for our daughter. What a pleasant surprise to find that our entrees came with pasta fagioli soup; tomato and cucumber salad and a side of angel hair pasta with sauce. Everything but the angel hair pasta was amazing. For some reason the sauce mixed with the angel hair just didn't taste as good as with the fried provolone. The entrees were large portions and exceptional. My steak required no additional sauce (e.g. A1 steak sauce)...it was perfectly cooked to my order, medium rare. The eggplant parm was thinly sliced and well cooked. All of the different plates came out fast, but appropriate to where we were in our dining experience. Barefoot landing is an obvious tourist trap, but it's quaint and has a nice ambiance. Umberto's was playing the "Mob Hits" soundtrack....and while a little cheesy......it was fun and I enjoyed singing all the classic songs with my daughter. The price was fair....about $26 for a good portion of NY strip and $15 for the eggplant parm. But that also came with the soup, salad and pasta. There are many options for steak AND Italian food in Myrtle Beach, but this place was recommended by someone coming here for 20 years......I think that speaks volumes for the restaurant. Take Home Message (THM): Umberto's serves quality Italian food, has a nice/fun ambiance, the wait staff was friendly and attentive, and while the price was not on the budget side.....the entrees do come with a soup, salad and pasta all for the one price. I would definitely recommend Umberto's on your next trip to Myrtle.

Arrived at Umbertos on Easter evening. Needless to say, it was very busy, but as I understand it this place is always busy. The hostess and staff were doing an excellent job of processing the wait queue and quickly turning over tables and seating diners. I had a 6:45 reservation and when my family of four arrived on time, they promptly sat us. They start everyone off with "beans and greens" family style that were delicious. Then next up was the tomato, onion, and cucumber salad also served family style and prepared in an olive oil. This was an incredibly delicious appetizer. During the appetizers they are very generous with servings of what appeared to be just baked bread. The bread was really good, For entrees, my family and I were divided, as we are all very experienced diners and quite capable of rating the quality of of meals. My wife did not care for the Shrimp Scampi, she said that the shrimp were not tender and my daughter did not care for the eggplant parmigiana as she said it lacked flavor. My other daughter and I liked our meals and I would especially recommend their chicken francese which was very good. The restaurants atmosphere is very nice, we had a table that was adjacent to a window that looked over the water. The place is loud, but overall a nice atmosphere for when you are on vacation and dining with your family. If it were not for my daughter and wife not liking their entrees I would have definitely gone with four stars.

As I eat the leftover pork chops, our party discussed how great Umbertos was, and how we are coming back next year. Food was great, my pork chops were HUGE, and everyone was satisfied afterwards. Must go if you like Italian food.

This is our anniversary spot. Consistently excellent as is the service and attentiveness. Had the usual beginnings, pasta fasciole, tomato salad, pasta in a fantistico sauce...good enough to eat like soup. Wife had the veal chop that was huge and I had the double cut lamb chops, also incredible. Had a bottle of their house chianti which was average. Took a canoli home. The only negative was that the server brought out a dirty wine glass and I really believe he was embarrased. The dining room was loud as there were two large parties one of which was about 10 men who apparently were on a golf outing and trying to exercise (or exorcize) their excess testosterone. Gotta expect things like that and they were civil. Anyway, this place is great and always busy but we never make reservations. This is a DA...DO AGAIN!

Best fried Calamari ever! Crunchy on the outside, plump and juicy on the inside. The atmosphere is loud, spirited and flavorful. Just like the Italians! 1. Beware Umberto's is very crowded at peak dinner hours. It's highly recommended to make reservations. We didn't and had to wait about 30 minutes starring at the pictures on the wall. However once seated we were in for a treat. 2. Expect a 90 minutes plus dinner. If you're mind is set on fast service then Umberto's is not your place. Otherwise sit back, relax and enjoy the food. 3. Everything we got was delicious the salad, bread, calamari, the pasta w/ meatballs and the fish. We topped it all with an angelic tiramisu made right to my liking: fluffy, light on sugar and generous on liquor. 4. Bring your noisy kids along. We were apprehensive at first dragging our 1 and half year old along. She had a blast. Her babbling, giggling and even singing fit perfectly with the crowd. 5. Speaking of crowds, the place feels rather small. Way too many tables for the room size. You really get to rub elbows with your neighbor patrons...even learn some things you wish you didn't. But hey once you're in, you're in...Few Chianti glasses later, we all sang the same tune. My fellow hot-blooded, shower-singing, loud speaking, store yelling and kids chasing citizens go to Umberto's to feed your tummy beast and your joyful soul (2 night rest recommended afterwards for a full recovery...).

I have eaten at the Umberto's in Little River 7 or 8 times, though not in recent years, because I felt they had gone significantly downhill. Being in the North Myrtle Beach area, I decided to give them another try. Food was somewhere between poor to very mediocre, especially for the price. There are plenty of other restaurants in Myrtle Beach. Why give this one your money? Fast food is a wiser choice.

This is a place that you will be thinking about years after you eat there! I'm not joking. This place had a wonderful atmosphere. Family style dining is always a plus in my book. The beans and greens were awesome. So was the pasta. So was the tomato, cucumber and onion salad. So was my NY strip. Do you see a pattern here?! Everything we got was the epitome of Italian dining. I can't wait to go back.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
